Frequently Asked Questions

Common Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy parts for my Pier Pleasure Dock or Lift?
Parts and service are available from your local Pier Pleasure dealer. Please use the dealer locator to find Pier Pleasure dealers in your area.
Do I need to remove my dock and lift from the water during the winter months?
Your Pier Pleasure Limited Warranty does not cover ice damage. Do not leave any Pier Pleasure product in the water during winter months. Leaving any Pier Pleasure product in freezing water in all situations is not recommended.

Sectional Dock Frequently Asked Questions

How high should the top of dock should be off the top of the water?
On most new docks, the average is 18” from the top of the dock to the top of the water. This gives about 14” of wave clearance under the sectional dock. The distance will be higher than 18” on lake locations with higher wave action and lower in smaller lake bay locations with little wave action.
What adjustment setting should I choose for my dock legs?
The total adjustment setting for the sectional dock legs is 18”. The dock adjustment setting most commonly set on new dock legs is up 9” and down 9”. If the water is high when measuring for a new dock, you may want to choose a dock leg setting of up 6” and down 12” or up 3” and down 15”. If the water is low when measuring for a new dock, you may want to choose a dock leg setting of up 12” and down 6” or up 15” and down 3”. Talk with your local Pier Pleasure dealer for assistance on choosing the correct adjustment setting for Pier Pleasure dock legs.
Do I need to grease the screw in the sectional dock legs?
The adjustment nut used in the dock legs is made from UHMW plastic (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) and is an extremely tough plastic with high abrasion and wear resistance. The versatility of polyethylene has made it a popular plastic for countless industrial applications and is self-lubricating. No grease is needed.
How much water does the sectional dock frame hold?
60 pounds of water can be added to the lightweight sectional dock frame. Adding water to the tubular dock tubes helps with the dock stability in heavy wave action. The water can easily be drained later in the season by removing the bottom drain plugs.
How can I add length to my sectional dock legs?
Pier Pleasure has dock leg extensions available to change the length of the dock legs if the water levels change or when sections are pushed out to deeper water during a dock layout addition. The sectional dock leg extensions are available in 6″, 12″, 18″, and 24″ lengths. Remove the footpad from your existing leg, slide in the extension, bolt in place, and install the footpad back on the end of the extension.

Roll-In Dock Frequently Asked Questions

What is the thickness of the Pier Pleasure roll-in dock?
The truss style Pier Pleasure roll-in is 10” thick. All dock accessories made by Pier Pleasure will fit the roll-in dock frame.
Will the extruded Tan and Clay vinyl panels work in the roll-in dock frame?
The roll-in frame is designed to work with all 1” thick panels. The extruded vinyl panels are 1-3/8” thick and will not set down properly inside the roll-in dock frame. The Titan vinyl panels in mushroom and gray color are the best option for the roll-in frame. The Titan panels have aluminum reinforced planks and are quiet when people walk on the dock.
Are there extensions available for the roll-in dock wheel kits?
Yes. Extensions for the roll-in dock legs are available in 12” and 24” length.

e-Dock Frequently Asked Questions

How do I cover up the panel notch if I cut the Titan panels to fit around the posts?
Pier Pleasure has notch covers that match the color of the panels. The covers simply slide down over the post and cover the notched panel.
Can I put wheels on e-Dock legs?
A wheel kit is available to replace the dock footpads on a Pier Pleasure e-Dock. The sections can be rolled in and out of the water by one person.

How can I determine what canopy frame model size I have?
Pier Pleasure canopy frames are measured in 2 foot even increments from 12 foot to 34 foot with the canopy ends extended. Canopy frame model numbers are based on the boat lift’s inside width they cover. When measuring the overall width of canopy frame, subtract 6.5” from the width to get the canopy model. Example : If your canopy frame measurements are 24’ long and 120-1/2” wide, your canopy model is 24114
Why does my lift crank hard when I am lowering it?
Most likely the winch wheel is stuck on the winch shaft against the brake pad. The wheel needs to back counter-clockwise off the brake pad to freely lower without any complications. Remove the boat from the lift and lower the lift completely. Remove the bolt, washer and any spacers from the end of the winch shaft. Next remove the wheel from the winch shaft by turning counter-clockwise. If the wheel is stuck firmly on the shaft, you may need to clamp the cable spool with a vise grip to prevent the winch from turning. Once you have the wheel off, put some lithium grease on the winch shaft threads. Re-install the winch wheel on the winch shaft and make sure it turns completely up against the brake pad. The wheel needs to move clockwise against the brake pad and also move freely turning counter-clockwise away from the brake pads. Re-install the bolt, washer and any spacers to prevent the wheel from coming off the winch shaft when lowering the lift. It is recommended to repeat this process every 24 months.
Why doesn’t my lift stay cranked up?
The winch is either cranked up backwards or stuck on the winch shaft away from the brake pad. The lift should be cranked up by turning the winch wheel clockwise and lowered by turning the winch wheel counter-clockwise. If the lift is cranked up backwards it will not stay up and will damage the winch. Remove all cable from the spool and crank up the cable back on the spool while turning the wheel clockwise. If the winch is cranked in the correct direction and still wont stay up, follow these instructions to make sure the winch wheel moves freely on the winch shaft. The wheel needs to move clockwise against the brake pad and also move freely turning counter-clockwise away from the brake pad. Re-install the bolt, washer and any spacers to prevent the wheel from coming off the winch shaft when lowering the lift. It is recommended to repeat this process every 24 months.
Can I change the weight capacity of my boat lift by changing the cables?
Differences between boat lift capacities are more than just the cable sizes. The lift frames will have larger and thicker aluminum tubes as the lift model increase in capacity. Changing cables in most cases is not enough to increase lift capacity.
Can I move the winch to a different post on a vertical boat lift?
No. The cable system on a vertical lift requires that one post is designated as the winch post. If you want to move the lift from one side of the dock to the other, simply turn the lift 180 degrees and reverse the lift accessories. You may enter with your boat from either end of the boat lift.
How do I clean my Pier Pleasure canopy tarp?
Brush off loose dirt and hose down. Prepare a cleaning mixture of water and mild natural dish soap (no detergents). Now, use a soft bristle brush to clean. Allow soap to soak in and rinse thoroughly. Allow to air dry completely before storage.
How do I repair a hole or tear in my canopy tarp?
There really is no repair kit available from Pier Pleasure. Depending on the size of the “hole” will determine how it can be repaired. If the hole / tear is small, Tear-Aid has a clear vinyl product that will repair the tear from the inside of the tarp. If the hole / tear is larger, then the tarp would need to be repaired by sewing and possibly have to replace a complete panel.

Tear-Aid Repair Type B Vinyl Kit
Tear-Aid can fix most small tears.  Remove the paper and stick to inside of the tarp. (See Youtube Video link below)

How do I protect the canopy and lift during a storm
Never leave the canopy tarp on the boat lift if there is no boat on the lift, especially during a storm. In high wind areas, consider using mesh end windows and/or auger posts secured to the lift. If you are going away for extended period with your boat, always remove the canopy tarp.
Can I make my canopy frame longer for my new boat?
Canopy Frame length extensions are available to make the canopy frame 2 foot or 4 foot longer. The canopy tarp can also be modified at Pier Pleasure. Contact your local Pier Pleasure dealer for pricing and service.
